Grigoreas Tower House is found at an exceptional location, on the slopes of Mt. Taygetos, at Exochori, in Messinian Mani. At an altitude of 470m, Exochori, is only 6km from Kardamyli. It is the area's oldest settlement of the Byzantine era.
While at Exochori, you can traverse the Viros Canyon, where rare varieties of plants flourish; a veritable botanical paradise. Altogether, an idyllic, year-round destination, where Mani's wild, untainted landscape, blends with the area's traditional architecture.
Grigoreas Tower house dates back to 1852, and was fully renovated in 2016. It was built by Charalambos Grigoreas, the son of the leading citizen and elder of the village of Exochori (known in the past as Androuvista), Dimitri Grigoreas, with the craftsman Stratigoulis Peroutseas (there is a marble slab of the manor which says "master craftsman Stratigoulis Peroutseas stone cutter".)
It is a three-storey residence with a basement pantry which is built of marble stones from the area, and marble arches. In the traditional wood-carved chest of the home, two valuable parchments of the 16th and 17th century were found which the family donated to the national library. Next to the manor house a recently renovated Byzantine family church of Ag. Pendeleimonas is found, the oldest of Exochori, whose holy icons were painted by Cretan monks in the period of 1345-1360. On the Byzantine stone slab one can read "pray for the servant of God, Simeon, elder priest and prefect of Androuvista +1717."
The tower house, is uniquely decorated and fully equipped with all modern amenities. It can house up to 6 people. The ground floor features a double and single bedroom, a living room, kitchen, bathroom and a fully furnishead patio. Marble stone stairs lead you to the middle floor, featuring a double bedroom, kitchen, dining table, 2 bathrooms, and a fully furnished veranda. Two staircases, an interior staircase and an exterior, marble staircase, lead to the third level which features a dining area and a living room. There, a spacious veranda offers a lovely mountain and sea view, of the Messinian Bay.
